A Party Hat For Joe

I want to share with you about a sweet little guy whom I’ve been creating birthday keepsakes for since he was one year old.  Each year, Joe’s mom sends me photos of his party outfit, colors and interests to make something special for his birthday.

The first year, it was a vintage circus hat in aqua and red with an adorable giraffe.  I digitally created patterned paper for a perfect match to his party theme and covered it in layers of crystal coarse glitter.  It looked as if it was dipped in sugar!

The second year, it was a “Cars” theme in red with checkered flags and the brim of the hat as the racetrack. Shooting stars burst from the top and a glittered trophy displays his birthday number!

For this past birthday, I designed a vintage train hat and railroad sign party picks.  His mom sent me pictures of his darling outfit and color samples for the party.  I created the brim of the hat to be the railroad tracks with a three-dimensional vintage train made from paper and glitter.  The birthday banner swirls around like smoke from the stack!

I know that soon little Joe will be too old for fancy party hats so I cherish these young years that I’ve been able to help create magic for him and his family.  Designing pieces that bring joy and smiles is what I love most of all, and I hope that comes out in my work.

Thanks to Joe and his mom, Amy, for giving me permission to share this with you.
